Scrapbooking - Men Matter
For some reason, in our culture, scrapbooking has been traditionally viewed as a woman’s hobby. It is just one of those “artistic” things that women do to the pictures that the men take. So, how can you include the man in your life in the creation of these timeless keepsakes? It’s simple really; just include him in a way that makes him feel manly.
A sure fire way to turn a man off of scrapbooking is by making him do and use things that are “girly”. These are things like bows, small fuzzy animals, glitter and anything pink. Look for things that better represent what HE likes; sports, hunting, fishing or cars. If you can’t find anything at your local craft store get creative. You can download pictures off the internet or cut them out of magazines (just be sure he is not still reading it first). Then let him design and assemble the pages devoted to his big fishing trip with the guys, a kid’s sports collage, or a special daddy-daughter day.
Just remember, men like to do the things that MEN do. If you can’t get him (or don’t want him) to assemble pages himself, ask him to build a special display shelf for the scrapbook to sit on when it is finished. Don’t forget to let him have complete control over this project. This can be his contribution to the scrapbook and is just as much a reflection of him as the scrapbook is of you. He doesn’t have to do things the way you would do them, but since the memories belong to the family, they are his, too, and his contributions are valuable.
